Sawaru Glyph is a haptic reading program developed in Japan to support individuals with dyslexia. ("Sawaru" means "haptics" in Japanese.) This program was designed to provide effective training at home.
The program uses visual and auditory materials combined with haptic reading of 3D letters to promote four essential functions critical for reading and writing:
・The formation of memory for letter shapes
・The integration of letter and sound memory
・The formation of word shape memory
・The improvement of RAN (Rapid Automatized Naming)
By using this program, individuals with dyslexia can enhance their reading fluency and improve their ability to recall spelling. It is also expected to reduce the cognitive burden experienced during reading. Through learning that incorporates haptics, we aim to improve the lives of individuals with dyslexia.
